NetFabb STL file repair
NetFabb is an online service that will take a Sketchup STL file and fix "invisible" problems that make 3D prints come out all messed up. Not every model can be repaired, but repaired files downloaded after processing have _fixed added to the file name. Make sure and move the "_fixed" file back into your project folder so it gets backed up. Do not remove the word "fixed"... it will make it easier for me to locate files suitable for printing.
NetFab has changed recently so you must create a free Autodesk account in order to use the service. _Fixing your model makes it much more likely to be tested out on the Makerbot. |
There are two free pieces of graphics software everyone should be aware of, Inkscape for vector graphics and the Gimp for bitmaps. You can basically have the functionality of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop without the cost if you just spend some time learning the toolbars. There are tons of tutorials to help you do that.
Inkscape even has a "portable" version that does not require a Windows installation, so it works at school... definitely something worth keeping on your Google drive. You can download it HERE. |
