The Ed Emberley Technique
Assignment: Create Various Characters and Objects
This week we begin applying our Vector Art skills towards our class-wide project of creating characters and objects for use on posters and animation projects. You can use any source material you like, but a set of Ed Emberley drawing techniques is provided that make for a great starting point.
Locating and placing a strip of an Ed Emberley style drawing on a Web Large artboard in Illustrator.

Using gradients and anchor point control to enhance our drawing and simplify the steps needed for shapes.

Drawing a racecar using Ed Emberley's technique and Illustrator's powerful tools.
You can choose what you wish to draw based on your own skill level and interest. Below are some of the things that have been created in the past, so it makes sense to design something new for the collection. Make sure you are putting the different parts of your design on their own layers, for example, each tire of a vehicle on its own layer lets us spin the tires independently as the vehicle moves.
- Use a Web-->Large (1920x1080) artboard
- You will be graded on having organized, named layers for each part of the drawing
- Employ gradients to give it a polished, subtle 3D appearance
